Teaching Excellence Trio Workshops

The Higher Education Academy’s Teaching Excellence Trio are a series of three, two-day workshops aimed at helping institutions enhance global teaching and learning practices.

The Teaching Excellence Trio were designed in response to the Academy’s work with higher education providers across the globe, which pinpointed three priority areas relating to improving teaching.

Each workshop can accommodate up to 30 participants, who either teach, lead or support learning in higher education, and are delivered by Higher Education Academy experts at your own institution. The workshops are available either individually or as a series of three development opportunities.

Designed for staff with a track record of success in teaching in higher education, the workshop will see participants:

  • explore Fellowships of the Higher Education Academy as internationally recognised indicators of teaching success
  • share good practice and inspire colleagues
  • reflect on and consolidate their own practice and development needs
  • begin the journey to achieving international recognition as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy

Participants will be involved in interactive and innovative activities that they can learn from and apply to their own teaching methods. The focus of the masterclass is agreed upon first with your institution by exploring priority areas
for development. The masterclass could focus on one of the following:

  • getting started in your first teaching role
  • preparing to lead learning and teaching
  • innovative pedagogies in particular disciplines
  • curriculum design
  • encouraging active learning
  • enhancing learning through technology

A bespoke, two-day programme for up to 30 participants to engage in one of the frameworks. This will develop an understanding of its rationale and content, and how to apply the framework in practice. The six workshop themes available are:

  • Transforming Assessment – maximising student learning from both the process and products of assessment within academic, discipline and professional communities
  • Embedding Employability – enabling successful transitions and contributions for students throughout higher education and beyond, benefitting themselves, the economy and their communities
  • Student Access, Retention, Attainment and Progression – fostering a culture that promotes and enables the full and equitable participation of all students into, through, and beyond higher education
  • Student Engagement Through Partnership – developing open, constructive and continuous dialogue between students and staff, among students, and between institutions and their respective students’ unions, associations etc
  • Internationalising Higher Education (preparing graduates to live in and contribute responsibly to a globally inter-connected society)
  • Flexible Leaning in Higher Education (offering choice in how, what, when and where students
