Leading Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (LLTHE)

Make real and lasting transformations in learning and teaching

The LLTHE programme supports university staff in leadership and executive roles with responsibilities covering education, learning and teaching and the student experience to make real and lasting transformation at a strategic level.

The core elements are: 'Leading Innovation and Managing Change' and ‘Governance and Management'; 'The Changing Curriculum’ and a Senior / Principal Fellowship Writing Workshop. All elements of the programme are designed to produce a rich, stimulating and interactive development environment.

‘Leading Innovation and Managing Change’ is designed to enhance leadership capacities in relation to change programmes and to understand the importance for the improvement of learning and teaching using case studies from the UK. It will cover many dimensions of leading change in practice, including:

  • The challenge for leaders of innovation
  • Improvements for teaching and the competing priorities
  • Large-scale curriculum design and reform
  • Change management models
  • New technologies

This second seminar, ‘Governance and Management; the Changing Curriculum’, focuses on the capacity of senior staff in relation to governance and management and the question of devolved or centralised curriculum frameworks. The following areas will be considered:

  • Management of teaching performance
  • Reward and recognition schemes: addressing poor performance
  • How to draft mission values

The Senior and Principal Fellowship Writing Workshops provide participants with an opportunity to gain an internationally recognised professional qualification for their teaching (HEA Senior / Principal Fellowship) and develop key skills to enable them to continue to drive forward the university’s learning and teaching strategies in the future.

The key aims of the event are to:

  • Enable participants to engage in critical reflection about their professional practice in higher education
  • Provide opportunities to share issues and discuss experiences with colleagues and in relation to applying for professional recognition
  • Facilitate space and time to progress their thinking and drafting their narrative for their chosen category of Fellowship.

During the workshop, staff will have the opportunity to spend dedicated time to write and produce a recognition application and will work with HEA staff to agree on an action plan for its completion.
